Horse Grooming Supplies

Grooming a horse requires the proper tools for each horse. Some are universal for ponies or full grown horses, while others are specific to breed and size of pony.
The tool used may also depend upon if the horse is pastured outdoors all year round or stabled during the cold weather seasons. Grooming a horse is not just for appearance, it is also to keep the horses circulation at its peak. A good massage does wonders for a horse. Using the right brushes, combs and other supplies specifically for the horse will help a great deal in preventing harm to vital organs and keeping the skin healthy. The basic tools are listed below, but there are many others that will also provide you with good tools for easier grooming of your horse.
A Grooming Kit Should Have The Following Basic Tools
A Dandy Brush
This brush is mostly used for taking the mud off the legs. It is stiff, much like a whisk broom, and is not normally used on the body of the horse because its bristles are to sharp. However, if you have a pony who has started shedding a winter coat, a dandy brush can work well to get the first layer of coat off
Body Brush
Used primarily on the body because the bristles are much softer and not as apt to cut into the skin. It works very well as an alternative to massage the horse. The body brush will help bring out the sheen of the hair as well as aid in removing loose hair. This tool is also used on the mane and tail.
Hoof Pick
It is necessary to clean and condition a horses hooves to keep them from cracking or becoming diseased. The hoof pick is one of the main tools for cleaning the hooves.
Hoof Conditioner
Once the hooves are clean, the next step is to condition them using a natural product. Petroleum based products should be avoided or the hoof can not breath. Always keep a good hoof conditioner on hand and use it to keep the hooves in optimal condition.
Sponges
Sponges are necessary to help clean the eyes nose and dock
Stable Rubber
A stable rubber is a fine linen pad used to give a brilliant shine

Horse Clippers
When grooming your horse you will want a good pair of horse clippers to handle the larger portions of hair that needs to be removed throughout the seasons.
The curry comb will make fast work of getting the loose hair and tangles from the mane and tail sections of the horse. Every tool kit should have the curry comb as well as a detangler.
